5 beautiful Irish Air BnBs to enjoy within your county before Christmas

Looking for a pre-Christmas break to unwind? Use up those annual leave days with these amazing local Air Bnbs

With restrictions easing across the country from tomorrow, December 1, we’re all giddy with excitement at plans for the Christmas period. But while we can’t wait to branch out beyond our 5km, remember that, until December 18, we still have to stay within our county.

But it’s not all doom and gloom – wherever you are in the country, there is a corner of your county that can be the set of a beautiful pre-Christmas break. And, in the spirit of supporting Irish, we’ve trawled through Air BnB to find five truly unique guest homes that will provide a memorable stay to wind down 2020.

From east to west, here are some of our favourites that we’ve found.

Beautiful Irish Air BnB’s to spend December in

Tubbrid Castle, Kilkenny

Sleeps 8 people

From €575 a night

Yes, you read that right – you could spend the beginning of December in a 15th century castle. Situated 20 minutes from Kilkenny city, you’ll have the best of both worlds in this luxury castle – enjoying the newly reopened life of Kilkenny, and returning to the truly finer things in life. This is the most expensive Air BnB on the list, but the chance to stay in a guest house like this is absolutely worth it.

The 18th Century Mews, Meath

Sleeps 2 guests

From €120 a night

If a rustic, outdoorsy vibe is what you’re after, the Mews in Kilmainhamwood in Meath is beautifully charming. The open plan mews feature exposed beams, a fully fitted farmhouse kitchen, with a double bedroom and luxury bathroom upstairs, blending the old and the new in a cosy atmosphere perfect for winter. Available on site are activities such as horse riding, fishing, archery, clay pigeon shooting and off road driving.

Kilmurray Cottage, Kerry

Sleeps 4 guests

From €160 a night

I mean, with that view, what else could you need? This Atlantic coastal property is the ultimate place to relax and unwind for the end of the year. Featuring panoramic views of Dingle Bay all the way around to the Macgillycuddy Reeks, the two-bedroom cottage is located just ten minutes from Dingle Town, which is one of the most buzzy places to be at this time of year.

The Dunes Thatched Cottage, Wexford

Sleeps 7 guests

From €200 a night

The beautiful scenic Curracloe cottage is within walking distance of the beach. Admittedly, during December, it’ll be a little nippier than usual in the sunny south east, but with this cosy cottage tucked away up the road, you’ll hardly mind the cold.

Achill Atlantic House, Mayo

Sleeps 7 guests

From €100 a night

When you think of an idyllic weekend away in Ireland, a getaway cottage on Achill Island is the perfect fit. With unobstructed views of Clew Bay, private access to a stretch of beach and some of Achill’s most famous sites a few minutes away, this is the perfect place to escape it all.
