9 chic Christmas decorations we’re cooing over

Our edit of the nicest Christmas decorations you’ll find this year, from festooning the tree to hanging garlands and much more

Much of your Christmas decorations are made up of twinkle lights, candles and colourful baubles – and so they should be. If you can’t be overly sentimental and twee at Christmas, when can you be?

However, once you’ve got your basics sorted, you can afford to be a bit choosier about the festive decor you buy – they really need to add something new to your home. You’re only going to buy one or two new decorations each year (okay, maybe three) so they ought to be extra special.

We’ve rounded up some of our favourite Christmas accessories that’ll add some chic style to this year’s festivities.

Christmas decorations

These little embroidered decorations capture scenes around Copenhagen, including the toy-like Church of Our Saviour and the famous Little Mermaid statue. Whether you’ve visited the Danish capital or not, these decorations are made with luxury in mind and will bring lots of colour and tactility to your tree. Embroidered Christmas ornaments, from €9 each, Ferm Living

A lovely addition to a front window or child’s bedroom, the Christmas Flensted mobile from Article will slowly twist and turn in all its festive glory. Flensted Christmas Trees mobile, €28, Article

Christmas decorations

You’ll need some Smell-o-vision to discover the delights of Max Benjamin’s latest collection of decorations. Coming in heart, star and tree shapes, each one is scented with festive flavours of cinnamon and cloves and will fill any room with its delicious aromas. Hang on a door wreath to give visitors a nose of what’s to come beyond the door. Scented Christmas decorations, €12 for set of four, Max Benjamin

Christmas decorations

If you want to really treat yourself to some beautiful, handmade Irish decorations, you can’t beat the fabled work of Dublin ceramicist KaroArt. Unglazed white porcelain baubles are painted with forest flora and fauna, including a robin, a fox, a deer and a berried twig. A gorgeous gift for a new homeowner too. Porcelain bauble box, €90 for set of four, KaroArt

Christmas decorations

Spotted these brass beauties in Industry & Co’s Christmas windows and immediately snapped up a few metres of it. Catching the light, this garland looks great draped across a window, festooning a tree or woven as a runner up the Christmas table. Brass star garland, €30, Industry & Co

Christmas decorations

Candlelight is one of the crucial elements for creating a festive atmosphere. Add an extra bit of twinkle with these adorable porcelain tealight holders that take the form of the celebrated buildings that border Amsterdam’s canal. Church tealight holder, €25, April and The Bear

Christmas decorations

If you’d love a real garland for your door but don’t have the green fingers to make your own (and want to avoid the nasty chemicals and plastic of an oasis), this Irish-made willow wreath is perfect. You can simply hang it, twist some twinkle lights around, or use as a reusable base to add some foliage – you can’t really go wrong. Hanna Van Aelst willow wreath, €50, Irish Design Shop

Christmas decorations

Going to include these two lovely ladies in our Christmas wish list from now until eternity, because while we love them, they’re just a tad outside our price range for cutesie seasonal ornaments. That said, Santa, if you’re listening… Datti wooden girl skier by Kay Bojesen, €81 each, Amara

Christmas decorations

This hanging garland could almost be left up all year round. Hang on a door for a subtle decoration or beneath a light where it will twinkle and shine. Metal garland, €14.99, H&M Home
