Meet Frieda Gormley, The Donnybrook-Born Co-Founder Of House of Hackney

Co-founder of the wickedly cool House of Hackney, Frieda Gormley grew up in Dublin and Spain. After graduating from Trinity, she cut her teeth in Dunnes Stores before heading across the Irish Sea to London to work for Topshop and later set up the print-based design store with her partner and husband, Javvy M Royle. Here, she takes us on amble around all of her favourite places, spaces and things.

ONE MY IDEAL DAY OFF I would go for breakfast in the E5 Bakehouse, under the arches just by London Fields Station. I have children so I might take them to the Museum of Childhood or we could go to Epping Forest, which is the old stomping ground of William Morris. Afterwards, I’d head into Soho to visit Liberty, my favourite store, for perfume, vintage jewellery and homewares.

A RECENT FAVOURITE PURCHASE IS Rose Noir perfume by Byredo, which I wore on our wedding day. It reminds me of a beautiful time.

ALTHOUGH I QUITE LIKE THE COUNTRYSIDE, I love the Art Deco side of Shanghai. It’s as beautiful as Paris, yet less discovered.

MY ONE TO WATCH IS the lighting and interior designer Lee Broom, who’s our neighbour here in Shoreditch.

MY FAVOURITE HOLIDAY DESTINATION is Cornwall. It is really beautiful. I love how the flora is an amazing mixture of sub-tropical, but also has hydrangeas as well. It’s where countryside meets tropica, it’s magical.

WE ARE CURRENTLY DESIGNING a series for C.P. Hart which is launching in November. It’s our first foray into the concept of bathrooms, so it has been really incredible to even research.
