Homeware pieces for every room if your New Year’s resolution is to be more organised in 2021

Homeware pieces for every room if your New Year’s resolution is to be more organised in 2021

Keeping your home more organised is often easier said than done, but having great storage solutions in every room will make it much more achievable.

So many of us vow to be organised every time the New Year’s resolutions roll around again, but this year more than ever we really want it to stick.

We’ve spent so much time at home this year that clutter really impacts us when it builds up, whether it’s in our hallways, kitchens or bedrooms.

There are plenty of homeware products that can help you organise every space in your home, so we’ve found a few of our favourites.

Bedroom

Our bedrooms should ideally be calm, relaxing spaces, but we normally store a lot of things in these spaces, so it’s easy for them to become disorganised. The points in our bedroom that are most likely to need attention are wardrobes or drawers, and areas around our bed where we tend to keep things.

Rather than rooting around in drawers every day looking for what you need, by placing small boxes inside your drawers makes it easy to see at a glace where everything is.

If the area around your bed is your main issue, it’s a good idea to invest in a bedside unit which has some concealed storage, so you can still keep everything you need to hand, without it becoming cluttered.

Kids’ room

Always a hard one to keep clutter-free, you can at least make it easier for kids to help tidy up by providing them with clear places to put things. It helps if they’re a little fun, too, like this cute basket, which would be great for anything from soft toys to laundry.

Belly Basket, €38, Barn

For all those little bits like pencils and small toys, a pegboard with customisable sections is really handy. This one from Ikea works with a whole range of shelves, hooks and buckets, so you can configure it whatever way you like.

Kitchen

Another area that’s seen a lot of use this year, most of us could do with just a little more storage, whether it’s for pots and pans, cooking utensils, or produce that doesn’t fit in the fridge.

Galvanised unit with wheels, €149, Zara Home

Like having another cupboard or two in your kitchen, this industrial-style unit is perfect for things you use everyday and want to have easily accessible. It also has wheels, so can be moved out of the way, for example if you have friends over for dinner.

If it’s smaller things that are the problem (my kitchen, for example, has not a single drawer, which makes utensils an issue to store), then a small rail attached to the wall can be a great way to make the most of unused space.

Hallway

Hallways are natural collectors of clutter, from keys to scarves and shoes, so it’s important to have dedicated places to put everything.

Helen James Considered Wooden Bench With Basket, €118.06, Dunnes Stores

This bench with combined storage would give a place for shoes and bags, and could be combined with some hooks overhead for coats. If you lack somewhere to place small essentials like keys, a little floating space provides somewhere to do so, without taking up much space.

Living room

We don’t typically rely on our living rooms as much as other rooms for storage, but they can still accumulate bits and bobs. If it’s things like magazines and remote controls, then a table that has drawers is a good idea.

On the other hand, if you want to store things like extra throws and cushions for cosy evenings, a nice basket is an ideal solution, that will add an organic texture to your space.

Bathroom

Bathrooms are often a place that feels cluttered, and so a dedicated storage unit is often necessary to house everyone’s various cosmetics, shampoos, and other essentials. You could even give each member of the family a shelf to themselves, so things are easy to find.

Metal and wood storage unit, €89.99, Zara Home

If laundry lives in your bathroom, a basket with more than one section not only saves time when putting a wash on, and saves space compared to having two separate ones. This one in a pale grey will also fit into almost any bathroom scheme.

Bamboo double hamper, €39.95, Meadows & Byrne
