Dean Dreamy!

?Sophie's restaurant and bar on the roof of The Dean is a bright, light space with a New York vibe to it,? says designer Ann-Marie O?Neill. ?There are plenty of different seating styles, which makes the space casual and interesting.?

Dublin’s dashing new Dean hotel is designed to wow?

Like the rest of the city, the team at Image Interiors & Living HQ have been feverishly awaiting the opening of The Dean on Harcourt Street for quite some time now. The new hotel ran a rather clever teaser campaign to pique our curiosity over the last few months, offering fleeting glimpses into the funky artwork by emerging Irish artists lining the lobby walls, but little more.

Happily, the 52-bedroom hotel – ‘design-led luxury for those who want an experience, rather than four walls and a bed? – has just opened its doors and we’ve had a good old look-see. Scroll through the picture gallery above for a taste of the vintage-inspired delights that await you inside?

Reminiscent of a retro railway hotel, The Dean’s brand identity was devised by cult Temple Bar store Indigo & Cloth and is devoted in its attention to detail. ?We looked at the history of Harcourt Street, taking influence from the Georgian doorways to develop a unique font for the hotel,? says Indigo & Cloth’s Garrett Pitcher. ?The street also has a large rail connection, so we looked into old tickets and signs too.? Indigo & Cloth even have their own concession in the lobby. From fine art to typography, street art to photography, the walls are packed with visual treats by Irish artists, with many prints for sale.

The interior design and fitout was overseen by the award-winning team at O’Donnell O?Neill Design Associates, who can always be relied on to produce the most chilled-out contemporary commercial interiors around. Designer Ann-Marie O?Neill says, ?We used a limited palette of materials and colours, but combined them in a variety of different ways in the one space to create interest.” The result is a masterclass in elegant understatement.

Bedroom options are varied, yet all have a super-swanky feel. There are smaller rooms for getting the head down ??Mod Pods?and?Punk Bunks – as well as bigger spaces, double or twin?SupeRooms?and dual-aspect?hi-fis. The hotel also houses two luxury suites,?The Devlin?and? The James, with separate living rooms. And then there’s The Loft, a cool two-bedroom?Penthouse?with a huge living space for luxury seekers. All the Dean’s sleeping quarters rooms are playful to say the least: Rega turntables, vinyl and books from Tower Records, Marshall amps, Nespresso machines, SMEG fridges loaded with liquor, Irish munchie trays piled high with local goodies and plenty more to amuse you without you having to leave your room. If you’re feeling sociable though, head up to Sophie’s on the rooftop for dinner, drinks and tunes, with a 360-degree view of the city. Gorgeous.
