6 Interiors Tips From Hedgeroe’s Rebecca Roe

Rebecca Roe knows good style. Having started in the fashion industry – working for the likes of Beulah London, Jenny Packham and buying for Bergdorf Goodman – she took her knowledge of ethical production and the design process when teaming up with her interior designer mum Rhona to form Hedgeroe, a homeware store and design consultants,?in 2008.

?Designing our Hedgeroe products is a lengthy process; taking up to six months?, Rebecca tells us. ?All our products have a lot of thought put into them, and should be durable and purposeful as well as attractive.”

With an imminent?trip to India ?to see samples from the new collection and get inspiration for her upcoming apartment living line, she takes time out to reveal her top tips and ideas when it comes to interiors.

LIGHTING

Lighting is key and I always find light given from lamps is more elegant. Ensure all overhead lights are on dimers; a room that is always too bright can kill the atmosphere for evening gatherings.

OBEY THE BUDGET

Working with and keeping to budget is very important, it can be done by mixing designer with more high street items. Do all your planning well before starting on site, make changes on paper not during works!

INVEST IN YOUR PIECES

It can be tempting to buy something ?on trend?, but less is more when it comes to design. I love the designs of the late Irish designer Eileen Grey and interior designer David Collins. Their use of natural materials is as inviting today as?it was 60 years ago.

START SMALL

Bathrooms are a priority for me; you spend so much of your time there. If in doubt when designing you cannot go wrong with white tiles and white sanitary ware. Even changing small things like taps and showerheads make a huge difference.

STORAGE

You don’t have to hide everything in the attic or on top of a wardrobe, a big cabinet can be a nice way to break up a long wall. Hedgeroe’s Hampton Cabinet with fretwork doors is not only beautiful, but also very useful.

PERSONAL TOUCHES

Personal touches for me means fresh flowers, family photographs in frames and scented candles. I also like to change cushions at different times of the year to bring a little bit of change to a room.
