3 unusual homes to buy in Ireland right now

If you’re looking for a home that’s a little out of the ordinary, we’ve found three for sale that you won’t come across everyday.

If you’re house-hunting, it can be overwhelming scrolling through page after page of homes that become indistinguishable after a while. Sure, once you move in you can put your own stamp on them, but there’s also an appeal to a building that brings something unique all on its own.

We’ve found three for sale that fit the bill, so all you have to do now is get dreaming about which would be your favourite.

19 Belgian Square, Monaghan, €105,000

Dating back to 1800 and originally part of a carriage archway of an infantry barracks, this 3 bedroom house is certainly not run-of-the-mill. With high ceilings and some period features, it also has a large living room and kitchen, meaning it would be a great family home that’s full of character.

St Nicholas’s Church Moyliskar, Mullingar, €170,000

Although not yet technically a home, this former Church of Ireland church would undoubtedly make a stunning residence with some careful renovation. A real opportunity for someone willing to undertake a project, although it has been decommissioned for almost 30 years, the building is in relatively good condition. It also has retained its original tiled floor and windows, and is surrounded by beautiful mature trees.

Cloonkeely, Headford, Co. Galway, €210,000

Although at one time this house may not have seemed unusual, it’s definitely no longer common to live in a thatched cottage. For those who fancy it, this one in Co Galway marries all the character you would expect from a building like this such as whitewashed walls and exposed beams, with the modern conveniences one would expect today. Within walking distance to Lough Corrib, it would be perfect for those who love the outdoors.
