If a project in the countryside is what you’re looking for, then one of these three farmhouses could be the perfect candidate.

The thought of a gorgeous traditional farmhouse can make almost anyone dream of moving to the countryside, but even in rural areas, the best ones can be expensive.

An alternative is to choose one that needs renovation, which has the added bonus of allowing you to modernise it, as well as adding your own taste. Here are three around the country that need a lot of work, all for €150,000.

Ballymacarbry Upper, Waterford, €150,000

In what seems like amazing value, this farmhouse comes with a recently renovated cottage that could be lived in while working on the main farmhouse. The cottage has one bedroom, as well as a large attic space that could be used as additional bedroom space.

The farmhouse, however, would be a huge job, in need of total renovation in every room, although having the cottage as well does mean there should be less time pressure on any refurbishments.

The property is set on 0.76 acres of land, and is in a very scenic area, just an hour from Waterford city.

Leahill, Adrigole, West Cork, €150,000

Although totally derelict, you can tell that this used to be a beautiful home, and has the potential to be so once again. Sitting on seven acres of land right by the sea, the house when completed would have the most spectacular views.

Just 35 minutes from Bantry, there are also a number of villages nearby, including Adrigole Harbour and Glengarriff.

Castleconnor, Mountrath, Laois, €150,000

If you’re looking for a house that will require less work, but still needs modernisation, then this farmhouse in Laois would be ideal.

Built around 1800, it has plenty of character, but is still in good condition, and features three bedrooms, as well as a kitchen and dining area, as well as a living room.

It would benefit from an update, but doesn’t seem to require any major work, while it’s located in the scenic Slieve Blooms, and has views of the surrounding countryside.
