Unlike almost anything else in your house, a coffee table has to sit in the middle of the room and therefore needs to look good from every angle. They can also quickly become dumping grounds too, for pens and bits of the Sunday papers, coins and the odd emptied battery.

There are some excellent Irish companies digging up mid-century winners, including Oriana B with this stunning Johannes Andersen-designed Trioh 1960s coffee table.

Available with a green or blue wooden inlay top, there’s a wonderful playfulness to the Caryllon coffee table. Its curved shape and closeness to the floor hark back to its design inspiration — the daisy.
