Three websites to shop when you’re broke

I find few things more thrilling than the adrenaline rush of happening upon a new brand to buy; especially when said brand is affordable (extra bonus points for being eco-friendly, too!). Unfortunately, by the time pay-day rolls around, my disposable income is less than I'd like, which poses a difficulty for someone like me working (indirectly) in fashion. Sometimes, a sartorial pick-me-up is needed to boost morale and confidence. Other times, it's just nice to be kind to yourself on a whim; without any unwarranted guilt. If, like me, you want to stay ahead without getting behind on your bills, try one of these three digital-savvy brands.

Who: Nakd-fashion

What: Wardrobe basics, denim

Why we love it: Established in 2015, NA-KD is one of Europe's top 20 fastest growing retail companies. Like many non-bricks-and-mortar brands, Na-kd strategically used social media to leverage its story and products. Today, though still in its infancy, the brand is well-known among fashion influencers, with heavy-hitters like @thestyleseed, @wefelicia and @johannaeolsson all photographed wearing the label. More and more brands are using social media as a portal into the popular consciousness of potential customers, circumventing the “middleman” aspect of a high-street shop or big online retailer and reaching their customers directly.

Who: Bohomoon

What: Costume jewels, stackable rings, necklaces, earrings

Why we love it: UK-based jewellery and lifestyle brand Bohomoon rose to ‘It’-girl status,  like many similar brands, via Instagram. This is in part due to the brand's lust-worthy, Instagram-filter aesthetic and in part because of its accessible price point. Update your jewellery box with plated opal and amethyst, or if you’re feeling lucky then try the Bohomoon lucky dip. With All Together Now, Beatyard and Electric Picnic coming up, it’s the perfect excuse to exercise your stacking ability. It's worth remembering that this is costume jewellery, so pay heed to the care instructions.

Who: Asos Marketplace

What: Vintage one-offs, festival and holiday wear

Why we love it: You might be familiar with Asos, but have you shopped the Asos Marketplace yet? The Marketplace launched in 2010 with just 20 sellers. Since then, it has become the leading online platform for independent brands and vintage boutiques, with more than 700 boutiques listed in its repertoire so far. What's great about the Marketplace is that you can spend hours (literally) browsing in boutiques from all corners of the world – from Belarus to Bulgaria and Australia to Austria. As well as independent labels, the Marketplace also stocks loved 90s brands like Champion and Tommy Hilfiger.
