How many pairs of skinny jeans do you own? Like me, the number is probably too shaming to say out loud. For years, they were the only jeans to be seen in. Kate Moss and Victoria Beckham wore them constantly, emphasising their tiny frames, and their bulging bank balances as they only ever sported each of the latest designer denim brands. But for the past several years, skinnies have become something we throw on as a last resort rather than an outfit anchor. These days, it's all about Japanese denim, asymmetric cuts, Mom jeans and retro styles. Skinnies don't quite cut it anymore... unless of course you throw on a sloppy but chic oversized shirt with them, like the London street star below.
Forget your cashmere sweaters, silk T-shirts and blazers - they're all much too early noughties. Right now, the style paradox of a well-tailored shirt with a sloppy fit feels totally cool and contemporary. It's also the ideal way to ease back into your skinnies after the overindulgences of the party season. Here are a few great shirts I've got my eye on as a way of reinventing my skinny jeans.
