Instagram is no longer just for posting your fancy lunch and gym selfie’s – no. The app has developed into a type of creative playground -a blank canvas if you will – where creatives showcase their best (or worst) selves, show off new projects, and provide daily doses of inspiration. ?The #TowelSeries by iconic fashion photographer Mario Testino will make you rethink your next bent-knee-teapot-pose selfie or brunch snap and gives the phrase “I’m wearing a towel” a whole new meaning.

Doutzen Kroes for the #TowelSeries

The project came to accidental fruition because of Kate Moss (she is a muse, after all), after Testino – who was shooting her at the time – was overwhelmed by her beauty as she strolled around the set with her hair held high in a towel. Since then, the project has become a liberating experience for many faces in the industry, with Testino commenting on his website that “girls and guys feel this freedom at being able to express themselves because there is no predetermined way of how they should put the towel on” he says. “You can do anything you want..wear it however you want”.

Since the inaugural towel?post some years ago, the iconic Peruvian photographer has featured a bevvy of stars from all facets of the industry, including model Imaan Hammam, football players?Cam Newton?and Odell Beckham Jr., elite models?Jourdan Dunn?and more.

The series is strictly Instagram only, meaning you won’t see these exclusive photos in any magazines soon but you can see some of our favourite picks from the project in our gallery above, by clicking here, or by searching #TowelSeries on Instagram.

If you aren’t creating bespoke photography projects on Instagram, then what are you doing?
