The best anklets to add a summer vibe to any outfit

The best anklets to add a summer vibe to any outfit

From beaded designs to delicate chains, an anklet is the ultimate summer accessory.

Anklets are perhaps the most seasonal piece of jewellery you can own (in our Irish climate, anyway). There’s something about showing off a bare ankle that lets you know it must be summer, even if the sun isn’t exactly splitting the stones.

During my teenage years, I wore an anklet determinedly all summer long, and mourned the September morning where I had to remove it to put my school socks on once again. For me, they signal a freedom, and immediately add a summer vibe, even if you’ve had to throw a jumper on over your sun dress.

Here are eight that I’ve been eyeing up, keen to reignite my summer anklet tradition.

This delicate design is made from a combination of glass and brass beads. It’s subtle enough to work with even the most minimalist outfit, while still adding a carefree beach vibe. Beaded metal anklet, €19, Cos.

If a fine chain is more your style, then this one from Topshop is beautifully simple, with a small loop detail. Made from gold-plated metal, it will also complement other jewellery well. Fine chain anklet, €25, Topshop.

Made from beautifully colourful glass beads and cultured freshwater rice pearls, this gorgeous anklet is like a grown-up version of the one your friend would bring you back from Spain when you were in school. From Danish jewellery brand Anni Lu, it encapsulates a sense of summer joy. Petit Alaia anklet, €61, Anni Lu.

For something a little chunkier, this link chain will add an edge to your look. As shown here, it can be styled with trainers and longer socks for a slightly different feel. Chain Link Anklet, €14, Urban Outfitters.

This double-chain design from Oliver Bonas has the addition of small beads to add a touch of colour. Elei Beaded Multi Chain Anklet, €18, Oliver Bonas.

If you want to commit to your anklet love with a quality piece that you can bring out summer after summer, then this one is made from Sterling silver plated with 18k yellow gold. Its filigree chain features simple gold balls, so it will go with any outfit. Anklet dots gold, €98, Thomas Sabo.

This gold and mother-of pearl anklet is beautiful enough to wear with even a more formal outfit, and would also add a special touch to your everyday wear. Ancient Greek Sandals gold-tone mother-of-pearl anklet, €65, Net-a-Porter.

I’m pretty sure I owned this exact anklet when I was 15, and I’m tempted to own it again. Wonderfully reminiscent of the surfer aesthetic that many of us got caught up in during the noughties, this anklet is cute enough to still pull off today. Anklet with daisy beads, €5.99, Asos.
