#TBT: 1980s Winter Coats

You’d be wrong in thinking that the eighties were just about the shoulder pads, neon leggings and perms. This week for our Throwback Thursday, we ruffled up a shoot from our October 1989 issue and they’re actually surprisingly cute. There’s even the odd nod to this season’s trends of sixties style length and toasty duvet coats.

This adorable grey tweed pixie-style wool coat was once for sale for €198 by Henry White. What ridiculous eighties fashion? This looks bang on trend to us and is a delectable take on the swing trend. We’d be delighted to get our paws on one of these before the Irish chill sets in.

We’re actually loving the 1970s car brown shade of this wool and cashmere coat by Mary Gregory (once €350 at the Design Centre in Powerscourt Townhouse). It’s pretty reflective of the duvet coat trend that we’ve been loving from Autumn/Winter 14. Why even leave your bed in the morning when you’ve a coat like this one? This is one to make that 9am meeting pass a lot more comfortably.

We’ve been really enjoying the cape trend, and this John Rocha burgundy wool coat (which we can only imagine would be labelled ?berry? on the high street) is luxuriously glam. However, it is in fact a waistcoat and cape ensemble, rather than the one coat. It once retailed at €120 (cape) and €40 (waistcoat). Those were the days when €200 would buy you a John Rocha coat and dinner out to boot?
