Storm Ali has signified the start of sweater-wearing weather; here are five of our favourite cosy knits

Storm Ali has signified the start of sweater-wearing weather; here are five of our favourite cosy knits

For the first time this season, I’m wearing tights and a polo neck and a coat and an oversized scarf. Winter has arrived. The silver lining of gusty winds and biting cold is of course all the fabulous knits we get to swaddle ourselves in. Is there anything nicer than the feeling of being cocooned in a tactile textured knit? It’s the sartorial equivalent of drinking hot chocolate.

If you’ve yet to bulk out your winter wardrobe with soothing sweaters, then read on. This is your essential edit.

I’ve always thought there was something a little bit sexy about sloppy sweaters. I love this ribbed oversized polo neck from online retailer Arket (one of my favourite places to shop knits). The fold-up cuffs mirror the polo neck style, while the over-long sleeves give it a cool point of difference.

This colour makes me feel warm just looking at it. I like the alpaca-blend wool because it gives this knit added texture, while the ribbed polo neck and sleeves offer a nice design detail. This shade of marigold is a great way of brightening up your autumn/winter wardrobe.

I’m pretty sure I had a sweater just like this when I was a child. That’s why I want it so much now. It’s comforting in terms of its cosiness but also because it makes me feel very nostalgic.

This Ganni sweater is perfect for layering over long-sleeved T-shirts or thin-knit polo necks. The gorgeous shade of bubblegum pink feels very fresh when translated to knitwear, and I love the slightly puffed sleeves. I’d probably layer this over a burgundy polo to give it some depth and a bit of attitude.

Forget shoes, a woman can never have too many cardigans. This monochrome jacquard cardi from Maje will go with everything and on milder days can double up as a coat.
