Marks & Spencer may hold a space in our hearts that's more reserved for undies and (to die for) food, but their latest collection has me clearing out my payslip
When you've reached high street fatigue with your usual go-to stores (yes Zara, Arket and ASOS, I'm looking at you), your mind starts to wander elsewhere for inspiration.
In the past few months, Marks & Spencer has really upped its game for fresh SS20 pieces that feel a world away from their usual fare. I'm ashamed to say that I wouldn't normally look to M&S for style — they occupy a space in my mind that's pretty much just for bras and underwear.
As I'm in my 20s, I had pretty much resigned myself to the fact that M&S is out of my range at this age, as its campaigns largely centre around older women (a triumph in itself in comparison to the rest of the high street).
But having spotted pieces on Instagram that I was incredulous to find belonged to M&S, I had to find out more about their new collections. And I was pleasantly surprised.
The quality is what always draws me in with Marks & Spencer but the style and flow of the pieces in their latest collection stuck with me. Some of this season's most current trends are shown, from polo collars to broderie trimmings, but with a classic aesthetic that feels like we could wear them forever.
Prices may be slightly higher than the fast fashion brigade, but they are certainly still fair for the quality of the pieces. M&S is a treasure trove for cheap cashmere and wool-blends, and even in summer, these are found in breathable options too.
Here are some of the pieces I've been lusting after:
Linen rich wide leg trousers, €55 from M&S
Pure cotton floral broderie ruffle blouse, €40 from M&S
Leather trench coat, €399 from M&S
Printed midi fit & flare skirt, €40 from M&S
Ribbed collar neck top, €27 from M&S
Floral print relaxed midi dress, €67 from M&S
Gingham fitted pencil skirt, €27 from M&S
Denim belted shirt midi dress, €75 from M&S
Leather ring strap loafers, €90 from M&S
