The One Piece That Will Make Transitional Dressing A Breeze

They say March comes in like a lion, and this year it has. But just as quickly as the clouds close over, the sun can'suddenly break through, making puffa jackets and parkas look and feel completely unseasonable. In Ireland, March through to May is all about transitional dressing; keeping warm but looking that little bit fresher and less weighed down by chunky layers. My failsafe item is a sleeveless jacket because it can be styled to suit whatever weather gets flung at me, but gives?enough of a nod to summer to make me?feel reinvented for the rest of the season. Here are five of my favourites right now.

This is an expensive piece by Massimo Dutti, but it's limited edition, the?quality of leather will last forever and it will age?beautifully too.

Limited edition Nappa gilet, €399 at Massimo Dutti

Grey is actually a great colour for this time of year. It's softer and less wintry-looking than black or?navy, yet you?won't look stupid on those spring days that look and feel more like November. Layer it over a chunky funnel-neck jumper in a deeper shade of grey.

I love the texture that the oversized collar of thisMint Velvet gilet adds. It?looks great mixed with neutrals of different shades. Darken them down a little for March (grey jeans and a charcoal sweater maybe) before lightening up with white jeans in May.

Faux fur-mix gilet, €79 (reduced from €95) at Mint Velvet

This khaki sleeveless jacket by emerging designer Maggie Marilyn is a really strong piece. I love the ruffled overlay, pleated pockets and raw edges, while the trench-style shape is very on trend for this season.

Victoria Beckham has made red the hottest colourway of this season and next. She was spotted looking sublime recently in a red knit skirt and sweater, and she features some gorgeous pops of raspberry in her AW17 collection. The orangey shade of red, below, is warming on Irish skin tones and will work wonderfully layered with more subdued reddish hues.
