Massimo Dutti AW19 collection: a collection to aspire to or to buy?

Massimo Dutti AW19 collection: a collection to aspire to or to buy?

Shot on the Staten Island ferry in New York, the Massimo Dutti AW19 collection is full of luxurious separates in a wearable colour palette.

I’ve always liked Massimo Dutti for its sophisticated aesthetic. Having said that, there’s something about the stores themselves that can make the product feel a bit flat. So although the photoshoot for its AW19 collection is divine, I wonder how much of it I will want to buy when I pop in store.

Massimo Dutti is one brand I tend to buy more often online as the pieces are styled so well and always feel aspirational and covetable.

The brand has embraced an elegant palette of biscuity neutrals for autumn, creating an edit of pieces that will anchor your wardrobe and add a premium feel to those more trend-led items and colours (there’s a strong neon trend emerging for autumn/winter and it looks great paired with earthy neutrals). There’s also a peppering of animal print through the collection which elevates it further.

I love this snakeskin print dress. It’s sexy, but classy at the same time, which is a difficult balance to strike.

Shooting the collection on the Staten Island ferry in New York hasn’t done the pieces any harm either.

Who wouldn’t want to be that girl on the ferry in that dress?

Equally, the mix of tactile textures and luxurious looking shades of vanilla through to toffee below feels so premium, though I’m not sure I’d be slouching around on a ferry wearing them.

Separates are where Massimo Dutti excels. I bought a jumpsuit there once and, unfortunately, the length of both the torso and legs looked about right for Gisele, but not for a woman of 5’6″.

The separates, however, seem to work for me. From pleated skirts and masculine shirts to sweaters perfect for layering, I love the strong mix of feminine and boyish silhouettes.
