How To Look Chic Wearing Sheer

How To Look Chic Wearing Sheer

If there’s one essential style message to take away from this year’s VMAs, it’s don’t dabble in sheer unless you’ve got the style nous of Kate Moss. From Hailey Baldwin, Rita Ora and?Nicki Minaj to Kim Kardashian, who true to form left absolutely nothing to the imagination, sheer gowns?were a popular choice on the red carpet this week. The point of this season’s sheer trend, however, is to let the imagination gently wander without allowing it to take off like wildfire?(take note Kim; a sheer dress that is bum-skimming and cleavage-revealing is too much).

There’s a trick?to pulling off sheer and it’s all about skilful layering. Creating the right silhouette is also a key factor in achieving a look that’s chic not cheap. Too tight is too much. A barely-there fabric provides?enough sensuosity for?one outfit, so keep your?look fluid and soft instead. Here are some easy?ways to embrace the look?this season.

This beautiful lace dress offers plenty of opportunity to play around with layers and create different looks. It would look fabulous worn over cropped trousers and an ankle-strap heel. If you’re wondering how to wear over-the-knee boots without any unintended references to Pretty Woman, pair them with a sheer skirt – I’d layer up on top with a cosy oversized knit though to keep the balance of the look right.

Try?a tulle skirt which has layers of sheer fabric overlayed. The outer layer, which dips lower than the rest, reveals the see-through make-up of the skirt without showing too much leg. I love the embellishment on this Zara skirt as well as the avocado shade.

This top offers a very cool and understated approach to the trend. I love the asymmetric neckline created by?the two-textured make-up of the top. No layering required here!

I like?to give a very feminine look a masculine twist.?This Topshop collared shirt adds a strong boyish vibe to traditional lace and sheer?fabrics.

I think the transparent?panel on this camisole top is sexy but understated. I’d pair this with a very fine-knit polo neck in winter, in a colour other than black of course, so the panel remains relevant.
