Lilac looks set to be huge this summer — here's how to wear it

Lavender-hued pieces will be floating everywhere for SS20 — here's how to wear lilac in style

Pastels for spring? Groundbreaking. But while pale and beautiful shades will always be a staple of our spring/summer outfit planning, we've left behind the demure pinks and baby blues for a punchier shade for 2020.

Lilac may sound like just another pretty pastel, but the shade of the season has the potential to be toughened up and styled out. Lavender hues and violet shades are just a lite version of the powerful purples that are a tonic for a tired wardrobe. What could be more invigorating to an outfit than the colour of royalty, but pared back to 2020 chic levels?

Despite its richness and abundance on the high street right now, many still look at lilac as a 'difficult-to-wear' colour. But just because it's a statement shade, doesn't mean it should scare you away. Lilac knitwear has been experiencing a resurgence for a while now, with the winter months dominated by pastel knits over blue jeans and boots for a tres-French look. Bring this spirit into SS20 by swapping knits for light and airy blouses and dresses — florals are always a failsafe, while the new-old materials like taffeta and organza are the perfect ways to experiment with this sugary shade.

Go as deep or as light as you like — lilac is the most versatile shade of the summer.
