Here are the 10 items fashion lovers were buying during the first four months of the year

Lyst has released it quarterly report detailing the most-wanted fashion brands and the 10 items all fashion lovers were buying during the first four months of this year

Global fashion search platform Lyst has released its first quarterly report of the year, giving us a glimpse at how we were shopping and what we were buying over the last few months.

Like everything else, the outbreak of Covid-19 has significantly changed the face of the fashion world. Our shopping habits and tastes have been altered; first in Asian markets and eventually in both America and Europe.

Here are some of the main points highlighted in the report.

Off-White and social media

Off-White retains its position as the hottest brand in the world for the third successive quarter. The brand has a highly engaged and loyal social media following and this has proved invaluable. In a time where consumers are confined to their homes, they are searching for human connection elsewhere and Off-White has provided this. Plus, demand for fashion face masks saw a surge of 496% in searches, with Off-White's arrow face mask taking the first spot in the hottest male products list.

Nike and the rise of sportswear

Because offices have closed, workwear has seen a significant drop. However, loungewear and sportswear have seen a significant surge in demand. Nike is one of the faster risers in this quarter, climbing nine places into third place.

Prada and the Raf Simons effect

Prada climbs two places in the Lyst Index following the announcement that Raf Simons would become co-creative director of the brand, alongside Miuccia Prada. There was a 911% spike in brand mentions since February.

Chanel and pre-owned luxury

With the rise in desire for vintage pieces, the Chanel classic double flap (pre-owned) saw a 75% increase in searches during the quarter. Another reason for the boost is that Chanel does not sell its bags online and all traditional bricks and mortar stores are closed. This means the only way to buy a Chanel bag is through second-hand sellers online.

New Balance and the power of the trainer

Over the last few years, New Balance trainers' popularity has seen peaks and troughs. During the 2010s. the 373 trainers were worn by every college student in Ireland, and now, the brand's 993 running shoes have entered Lyst's 'hottest products for women' list after being seen on the likes of Rihanna, Kate Middleton, and Kaia Gerber.
