Is it okay to wear a jumper now? Asking for a friend

Is it okay to wear a jumper now? Asking for a friend

Welcome to s-autumn-er; the in-between season where summer hasn’t yet fully passed, but temperatures are erratic. Have you been outside today yet? Despite being July (*checks calendar real quick), there’s a back-to-school feel about the weather. Unlike holidaymakers basking in the Azores, I’m getting to grips with the fact that our sunny reign might have actually ended. The shelves that I cleared to house my summer clobber may now be redundant. I felt chilly – nay cold – on my morning commute, and the idea of dainty spaghetti straps and open-toed sandals are less-appealing by the minute. So, here it goes: I’m ready for long sleeves, soft Merino wool pullovers and delicate cotton flannels.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s far from actual autumn (which starts on September 23rd), but I need something in the interim that will keep me warm while the weather refuses to make its mind up. The key to cracking transitional, seasonal style is light layers. Light knitwear is the perfect remedy for cold shoulders and arms, and even the most casual options – like the fawn-coloured, fitted jersey cardi from Arket, below – is an ideal cure for a midday wind-chill. Here are ten not-jumper-jumpers for your wardrobe as we make the imminent descent into autumn.
