I live in wide leg trousers, and these are some of my favourites

Wide leg trousers are the ultimate autumn wardrobe staple

There was once a time where I lived in jeans and never ventured into the realm of tailored trousers. They seemed too formal, too uncomfortable and I never felt they flattered my figure or style.

Fast forward to now, and I pity that jean-loving fool for not embracing the magic of wide-leg trousers sooner. They are infinitely more comfortable than jeans, while looking more polished and dressed up than the effort would have you believe. They can also be very easily dressed up or down – I frequently wear mine lounging around the house with a band t-shirt or plain jumper, and look as chic as if I threw on a midi dress.

As we come into the autumn, clothes that cover us up a little more, while remaining uncompromising on style, are all the more important. Layering pieces, wool blends, transitional jackets – they’re all important, but when it comes to your bottom half, you can’t go wrong with some wide-leg trousers.

If you’re all about comfort, I recommend keeping an eye out for an elasticated back – I own three pairs of the same style of slouchy trousers from Topshop in different colours, for this exact reason. They’re so comfortable, and they fit perfectly on my waist, which is important for me, as I’m more of an hourglass shape. Figure out your body’s curves and go for the style that suits it best.
