Here’s What We’re Buying From The New River Island SS18 Collection

Take five and have a look at some of our favourite picks from the new season River Island SS18 collection. We bet you’ll want a whole new wardrobe afterwards…

The new season collections are comprised of 6 key trends; 80s Graphics, Big Easy, Luxe Ethnic, Kitch Koko, Sweet Street and Print Clash. Together the trends are a bright and energetic combination of tropical-chic, earthy embellishments, playful patterns and blocks of striking colours.

The 80s Graphic colour palette is stripped back to minimal monochrome this year, with a strong focus on power dressing. Using oversized jewellery, white-on-white suiting and sultry frills, the collection oozes glamour with a casual edge. Juxtaposing this, Big Easy is made of larger-than-life silhouettes in muted tones to give a masculine feel. Utility dressing is amplified by playing with proportions to accentuate and draw attention to the midriff.

Luxe Ethnic touches on artisan influences. It is made up of modern, handcrafted pieces incorporating pops of lace, tassels, embroidery and paired with raffia bucket bags. Smocked ruffle tops are paired with cotton trousers and shirts are deconstructed for a modern take on a timeless classic. With the new season comes a melange of diverse textures and fabrics. Plastic and vinyl bring a shine and sheen element into the mix with Kitch Koko. Layering transparent plastics in pastel
hues onto frayed tweeds create an intricate balance of an advanced futuristic feel and natural textures.

Denim is revamped and reinvented to create Sweet Street. Jackets have been reconstructed into cropped tops and the classic baker-boy hat has been given an urban upgrade. Finally, head-to-toe collaging in bright shades make up Print Clash. Expect montages of checks, contrasting stripes, geometric shapes and complex graphics. This is a trend where more is definitely more.

Shop the River Island ss18 collection from January through to March. Happy Hump Day!
