Helen Cody Launches Her AW16 Couture Collection

Helen Cody Launches Her AW16 Couture Collection

If you’re not familiar with designer Helen Cody, you’ll most certainly be familiar with some of her exquisite creations – the beautiful blush feather dress that footballer Stephanie Roche wore to FIFA’s Ballon D’Or in Zurich in 2014 and Amy Huberman’s dancing disc dress at?the IFTAs the same year, to name but two.

Now, two years later Cody will unveil?her first couture collection in eight years at a fashion show in Christ Church Cathedral, from which all proceeds will be donated to St. Francis Hospice.

The collection will feature some of Cody’s signature detailing – embellishment, embroidery, feathers and lace (although Calais, Chantilly and guipure have been reimagined in the shapes of contemporary biker jackets and modern separates) – as well as knits for the first time, in pure?alpaca and 100 per cent Merino. Digital prints of Cody’s own artwork also feature heavily in this?collection?for the first time, and?Cody’s?traditionally soft ethereal?colour palette has been replaced by rich tones of damson, plum, deep Bordeaux and berry, perfect for autumnal occasion wear.

Cody confesses to being a very craft-orientated designer, but her collections never feel old-fashioned. She’s just as comfortable employing modern production techniques, such as laser cutting, and contemporary design details, such as knife pleats and 3D appliqu? flowers, into her designs as she is antique Irish lace. She has a unique ability to seamlessly combine ancient and modern to create’something fresh and relevant.
