The first Monday in May is usually one of the highlights of the fashion year — the Met Gala. But this year, with coronavirus restrictions in place, organisers “indefinitely postponed” the event in line with official guidelines, to help #StopTheSpread.
Due to be themed around the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s upcoming Costume Institute exhibition About Time: Fashion and Duration (which has also been postponed), the organisers announced an alternative event: A Moment With the Met, which viewers from around the world will be able to tune into.
A Moment With the Met promises a “celebration of the first Monday of May” and will be streamed live on YouTube from 6pm EDT (11pm Monday, Irish time) and involve an address from Wintour, a live performance by Florence and the Machine, and a DJ set from the designer Virgil Abloh. Wintour said she hopes the simple moment will "bring us all a bit of joy."
