Five pieces to buy in the sales now and wear throughout the winter too

Five pieces to buy in the sales now and wear throughout the winter too

Regardless of the type of summer we’re having, I always shop the summer sales for knits, silk shirts and coats. These are the pieces that deliver longevity, anchoring your wardrobe through each season, and providing the basis for a multitude of different outfits. But they can be costly at full price. Now that many of the summer sales are marking down as much as 50 per cent (it won’t be long until they reach 70!), start being savvy about your sale buys and begin preparing your AW19 wardrobe.

I recently picked up this gorgeous raspberry silk shirt from Joseph in Brown Thomas (it’s also available from net-a-porter.com). This is a great colour on pale skin tones, and will work beautifully with all of autumn/winter’s warm hues, from camel to maroon. Right now I’m wearing it over wide-leg pants and trainers, with the neck unbuttoned for a more laid-back look. Come September, I’ll layer it over a chunky oversized cardigan and pleated skirt.

Texture is so important to an outfit and that’s why I love to mix fabrics within one look. These chic corduroy pants will make a really nice alternative to wool trousers for work or denim at weekends. Pair them with a neat cashmere knit in a warm shade of toffee for a luxe look.

I always keep a close eye on Victoria Victoria Beckham for bargains. This cool turtleneck with side splits would be a terrific piece for layering in winter, plus grey is a colour that has featured heavily on the AW19 catwalks, so it’s ticking several boxes for me.

Cardigans popped up on almost all of the AW19 catwalks, from Celine to Chanel. I’m a cardigan obsessive anyway (it’s the one item I can never have too many of in my wardrobe), but if you’re not so sure about this trend, buy now at sale prices and experiment before autumn/winter arrives. They’re great for layering, swapping with coats for an alternative outwear solution in early autumn and they bring an insouciance to every outfit, which I love.

I love the simplicity of this dress and the rich navy hue. It’s an all-weather staple, perfect with knee high boots or layered over skinny pants and trainers.
