5 classic workwear pieces for your new season WFH wardrobe

How to navigate a new season of workwear when you work from home? Look to casual, comfortable and reliable classics

One fantastic, unexpected outcome of All This: now that our wardrobes require practical, comfortable, everyday essentials, all the shops have started to give us just that.

Once upon a time, right around now, we would have been trekking the high street looking for workwear, anything other than the hordes of on-sale thong bikinis and pretty much anything that didn’t look like the lurid neon front-less, back-less, side-less clothing of Love Island. Now, the shops are filled with sleeves, great knits, excellent tracksuits and classics we always want to wear. Finally, a season where I want to buy everything. It only took a global pandemic.

Everything we knew about dressing for work is a bit muddled now. You’re not wearing a suit to sit down at your kitchen table for work, but how to bridge the new workwear gap of comfort, casual, fresh and new? What does a winter WFH wardrobe look like? With these five items, I think I might have distilled it down perfectly.

The non-tracksuit trouser tracksuit trouser

Will I ever wear a trouser without an elasticated waist again? I hope not. Mango’s elastic waist leather trousers combine everything I want right now: winter workwear, stretchiness, waterproof, wipe-clean, affordable, comfortable and eternally trendy. They’ll go with pretty much anything on top; shirts, t-shirts, scratchy knits, silky blouses, whatever you’re having, and can take a heel as well as a trainer.

The jumper dress

For days when you really just want to wear your pyjamas, there are tons of easy-breezy, snug jumper dress that look and feel relaxed - take this one from Zara. Great with a blazer and chunky boots for now, great with heels someday.

September and a new season always feels a bit new term. There’s a fresh start and a fresh outlook. It’s back to school time and I think that’s why blazers feel right for right now; especially this slightly scratchy camel one from & Other Stories.
