Are you a fan of feathers? Here, IMAGE fashion writer Freya Drohan looks at 12 feathered pieces available to buy right now...
Feathers – or to call them by their unofficial name 'the Marmite of the fashion world' – are making themselves known.
Whether you want to blame the feather-trimmed pants and blazers at Miu Miu/Prada or the all-out frilly and frivolous dresses at Marc Jacobs, it can't be denied that marabou is having a moment. However, this is nothing compared to what's about to happen.
With next Monday's Met Gala theme centred around the upcoming Costume Institute exhibit 'Camp: Notes on Fashion', get ready for a veritable smorgasbord of texture.
Behind the theme
The theme is inspired by multi-hyphenate American creative Susan Sontag's 1964 essay Notes on 'Camp', in which she makes 58 points about the who, what and how of camp-ness. In the text, she suggested, "to talk about Camp is, therefore, to betray it"; a statement that's still mystifying the fashion industry 55 years later.
So, back to feathers – which we can most likely expect in abundance on the most illustrious red carpet of the year. Why? Well, as Sontag puts it, "[Camp] is the love of the exaggerated, the ‘off,’ of things-being-what-they-are-not. Camp is a woman walking around in a dress made of three million feathers”.
Feeling it? Here are some pieces to flock to...
