These are the fashion items people around the world are buying right now

These are the fashion items people around the world are buying right now

Think online shopping has decreased in these unprecedented times? The answer is no. Here is what the people of the world are lusting for online while staying at home.

As a fashion writer, it seems odd right now to be telling the masses what to buy.

We have nowhere to go, nowhere to be and no one to see our fabulous outfits. Dressing up in the comfort of your own home doesn’t have the same effect, and most of us desire comfort over style while we work on our couch.

However, online shopping continues to power on, even in the crisis. People are still shopping it seems. Global fashion search engine Lyst has compiled new data showing what the people of the world are lusting for online while staying at home. From America to Italy, those staring at the four walls of their homes are also hunting for a Gucci jumper or a Jacquemeus bag.

Searches and sales for comfortable loungewear are on the rise which is expected with the increase in remote working.  Unsurprisingly, work-related bags and accessories are seeing the biggest decline in sales, most notably wallets, shoulder bags, totes, and backpacks. While jumpsuits, dresses, and sunglasses have seen a global decline.

The data is fascinating, providing an in-depth look at the different style penchants of each country and different spending habits each seems to possess.

United Kingdom

Our neighbours now find themselves in a full-scale lockdown and their search pattern over the past seven days seems to have been in preparation for such an event. Hoodies, sweatshirts, cropped sweaters, backpacks and gilets were at the top of the list, while cardigans were trending in London.

United States

In America, shoppers are searching comfy sports clothing, in particular Nike and Adidas items. This coincides with more and more individuals working from home and the home workout trend.

Spain

Spain is on full lockdown with severe restrictions in place but that hasn’t stopped shoppers from searching for high-end items such as Gucci’s NY Yankees sneakers and Lacoste’s blue tie-dye sweatshirt. They are also on the hunt for more relaxed items such as denim jackets, kimonos and woven bags.

Italy

Home to some of the world’s most prolific fashion houses, the Italians are sticking to luxury fashion with high search counts for printed shirts from Versace and Etro. While Medusa jewellery and Dolce and Gabbana’s raffia tote are on people’s wishlists.

France

The French are known for their classic approach to style, with black being one of their favourite colours. However, it seems during these tough times they are looking for some luminosity with many searching for colourful clothes including Valentino’s Tribe Sneakers, Gucci’s Donald Duck jumper, Lacoste’s tie-dye puffer jacket, and Jacquemus’s colourful Riviera bag.

Germany

The Germans are looking to invest in designer classics such as Gucci’s loafers and court shoes by Hobbs, along with the popular Lacoste tie-dye hoodie.
