Fashion Is Getting More Comfortable With Comfortable Fashion

Fashion Is Getting More Comfortable With Comfortable Fashion

Thanks to the latest athleisure hybrid trend, comfortable fashion, it can now be casual Friday every day…

I love dramatic can-barely-walk-in-those-shoes outfits, but when it comes to practical fashion my heart lies well within the comfort zone. Towering heels, flowing trousers and power blazers against perfect street backdrops lay the foundations for bundles of Instagram likes. Out-of-this-world, avant-garde fashion is amusing and thought-provoking, but when it comes to every day, liveable outfits, there’s something magical about an ensemble that doesn’t just look great but feels spectacular too. With New York Fashion Week just wrapping up (and LFW on the horizon), it was refreshing to see models, editors and stylists cleverly up-dressing the trackpant with sophisticated heels (or in some cases, trainers are all you need as seen below at Marc Jacobs), billowing sleeves and cool accessories. The trend reaffirms the truth that clothes are, in fact, meant to be lived in! Perhaps what’s most appealing about this trend is that it’s achievable to look polished and formal at the same time thanks to clever design and cross-pollination of trends. So why not give it a go? Shop my favourite comfortable and sophisticated looks below.

Bold stripes at Ganni.com

Dubois polo pants, €149, Dubois polo shirt, €129, both at Ganni.com

Never again will you be forced to choose between the local tennis tournament or cocktails, because with this smart track-style suit from Ganni, you can do both! The tickle-me-pink colour is invigorating without being too in your face and together, the set looks polished, refined and very smart. The high waisted pants create an elongated silhouette and are breathable, making the task of running around seem, dare we say it, fun? And how about that darling Peter-Pan collar… Pair with high-fashion trainers or a simple mid-heel.

Go cobalt blue with Topshop.com

Seam detail joggers, €42 at Topshop.com

Do sporty dressing the retro-inspired way with clashing primary colours. Last year it was all about a very particular shade of pink. We were infatuated with it so much so that it sparked the opening of a dream-like candy-coloured museum in LA. Despite Pantone’s purple predictions, we’re betting this year will be based firmly on the primary colour wheel. These Topshop cobalt-blue track pants with white piping details are the perfect gateway to introducing these fun shades of colour to your spring wardrobe. Pair yours with bright, clashing prints and Balenciaga-style sock boots.

Sophisticated luxe at Uterque.com

Ribbed trousers, €115, ribbed T-shirt, €99, both at Uterque.com

This ribbed two-piece from Uterque.com is perfect for the woman that wants to experiment with the trend but likes keeping her look structured and sophisticated. The bottom half of this appealing dup is made of delicate stretch material and flowing fabric with glitter and the design features straight, wide cut legs and a wide drawstring waistband (hello, Comfort Central). The top half features a neat front-tie detailing and long sleeves: perfect for the changing weather. Also, how great would they look as separates too?

Race ready at Zara.com

Jogging trousers, €29.95 at Zara.com

Jogging trousers are a wardrobe essential (this is not up for arguing). They’re incredibly versatile, lightweight and moveable; making them an obvious choice for women-about-town. These go-fast joggers with blue, white and red side panels are high-waisted and fall just above the ankle. The addition of a subtle ankle slit makes these joggers particularly suave so that, come dinner hour, you can show off your new pedicure and sandal combo. If you haven’t jumped on the Athleisure bandwagon by now, this pair will get you off to a winning start.
