Winter dresses are just as flattering and fun as summer dresses. Here are five our fashion director has her heart set on now.
I used to be the kind of woman who wore trousers 80% of the time, but not anymore. Since finding the perfect pair of knee-high leather boots (from LK Bennett), a whole new world of skirts and dresses has opened up.
It's amazing what a difference the right footwear can make to your wardrobe.
As much as I love layering separates (and I really do), there are days when one piece is all I can cope with...usually Fridays when I'm tired and bleary-eyed from the week that's been.
Having said that, a couple of these dresses I will definitely wear over a fine-knit polo-neck to cover up bare arms. I like to feel cocooned in my winter clothes.
Take a look at the five dresses below, which I think will work in my wardrobe now and for several seasons to come.
I always navigate toward navy rather than black in winter as I think it's more flattering. The cut of this dress, with its loosely belted waist, creates a defined but laid-back silhouette, which I love.
Cupro dress with buckle, €99.95 at Massimo Dutti
H&M's current Studio Collection is one of its strongest yet. I have several pieces from it and this slip dress is next on my wish list. I adore the warm olive green hue and the easy femininity of the drape.
Olive green satin dress, Studio Collection, €79.99 at H&M
I rarely wear short dresses, and I definitely don't have the legs to wear this dress with flats, but with a pair of opaque tights and heels, I think I would get plenty of wear from it. The straight cut really appeals to me as it's a little bit boyish, but balanced beautifully by the frill hem.
Knitted dress with woven pleats, €89 at Cos
This dress is similar to a grey one I bought in H&M a few years ago. It's incredibly flattering as it hugs my torso but flares out at the waist, as does this Sandro version. This is an ideal dress for day or night.
Long lurex knit dress, €265 at Sandro
Topshop Boutique is one of my favourite brands. It always offers something a little bit different. I love this smock dress; because it's made from silk, it will drape beautifully, and I will wear it, as below, with a pair of elegant wide-leg trousers.
Silk smock dress, Boutique, €195 at topshop.com
