Comfort Zone: 7 Snug (But Chic) Pieces Perfect For January

Comfort Zone: 7 Snug (But Chic) Pieces Perfect For January

I bought a mohair-blend oversized jumper in H&M over Christmas, and I think I may not take it off until the end of January.?I feel completely cocooned in it, from the cold, yes, but from the January blues too. It’s warm and comforting and feels essentially like a big bear hug when I put it on.?Here are seven’more?items that will help to make you feel brighter in the dark days of January.

There’s something very reassuring about clothes that remind you of your childhood. Who, growing up in the eighties, didn’t own a duffel coat? I love this coat, with its inner lining for warmth and flexible stand-up collar for extra protection from the elements. The front?toggles make me feel seriously nostalgic … all I need now is a pair of mittens on a string …

Wool-blend duffel coat, €79.99 at H&M

This Zara cardigan looks a little like it’s been put in the wrong washing machine cycle, which I really like about it. It’s a straight cut, so hangs?loosely at the hips, and is great for layering over sweaters and polo-necks.

This wool and cashmere-blend jacket with animal-print front mixes textures beautifully to create a piece that?is as snug as it is sophisticated. This piece will take you anywhere, day to evening.

I like the textured detailing of this sweater and the stylish asymmetric hemline. I’d probably layer it over a top with a contrasting hemline to give the whole look a slightly graphic appeal. White and lighter-coloured knits are great as they’ll see you through to?April and May, when it can still feel chilly outside but black is far too funereal for the spring sunshine.

Braided wool-blend sweater, €85 at & Other Stories

This Joseph skirt (and sweater) offers such a modern take on traditional knitwear. The fashion buzz word right now is “deconstructed” and this sweater, which is created to look like a jumper tied round your hips, embodies the trend beautifully. Joseph is a great label if you’re looking to elevate your winter wardrobe with sophisticated separates.

Capes are always a chic alternative to coats, plus they’re very easy to layer clothes beneath’so can offer varying degrees of warmth. This Cos cape is less fluid and more cocoon-shaped, which makes it look’really modern. This is definitely on my wish list for January.

Wool cape, €105 (reduced from €150) at Cos

This is such a chic sweater with its felt sleeve detailing and canvas neck strap. It’s made from pure wool so is a real body warmer, while burgundy is a very?warming shade?for Irish skin tones.

Felt-paneled wool sweater, Sacai, €497 (reduced from €993) at net-a-porter.com
