Behind the Seams with Courtney Smith: The Creatives

IMAGE.ie and Samsung are delighted to join Courtney Smith on her mini-series 'Behind the Seams', where she meets Ireland's brightest sparks in the world of fashion, to shine a light on the vast spectrum of opportunities in fashion and what it takes to truly make it.

This week on Behind the Seams, Courtney is shining a light on a massively important (though sometimes overlooked) section of the industry; the creative realm. From styling to production to editing, this field has so many varied opportunities for fashion lovers, and without it, the publications and productions we know and love wouldn't be the same.

Ena Quinn is a freelance fashion show producer, who has produced shows for Erdem and Christopher Kane. Her job is massive — she manages everything from budget to creative direction of the show to liaising with models, stylists, PR and safety officers. Courtney chats to her about how to get into such a unique position, and what her working day looks like.

You may know Paula Hughes, one of Ireland's leading stylists, from her groundbreaking work on one of the country's best-loved brands, Primark. Paula explains to Courtney how she conceptualises every styling job and what she looks for when hiring an intern to join her fashion world.

Models1 is Europe's leading model agency, and at its helm as Art Director is Aaron Hurley — a role that doesn't even really exist in Ireland. Aaron explains what's needed to excel in this role, and how he worked his way up from photography (which he still does) to his position in Models1 today.

The final guest on this week's episode is stylist and editor Dee Moran, who has styled both celebrities and editorial shoots. She didn't study fashion as a student, but as her first job was as an intern at i-D magazine, she definitely had a vision for the future. Courtney finds out how she spanned from her start in the industry to now.
