BAFTAs 2020: The top 5 best-dressed celebrities

The BAFTAs took place in London last night and all eyes were on the red carpet. Here are the top five best-dressed celebrities according to IMAGE

We are now fully immersed in awards season which means our fashion senses are running in overdrive.

Last night the BAFTA awards took place in London and the best of Hollywood's elite flocked to the city to celebrate their acting endeavors and their fashion credentials.

This year's ceremony was all about sustainability with a sustainable fashion overview created by The London College of Fashion’s Centre. The guide was given to each attendee, complete with a list of pre-approved brands, however, this didn't exactly happen.

It was also encouraged for celebrities to rewear items. Kate Middleton was the only one to follow through wearing an Alexander McQueen gown she had worn previously on a visit to Malaysia in 2012.

Lack of colour

Like the Golden Globes, black was the chosen colour of many. From our very own Saorise Ronan to Sex Education's Gillian Anderson, the LBD (aka the long black dress) was the safe yet chic option.

And while a person can never go wrong with this base hue, I felt myself actively searching for more colour.

Awards season only rolls around once a year, so why not go big and bold with your red carpet choices?

Luckily, there were still quite a few stars who quenched my thirst for luminosity. Charlize Theron delighted in bold purple, while Florence Pugh brought pops of cerise.

However, there were five celebrities in particular who dazzled and delighted me. They wore colour and sparkle and lit up (literally) my phone screen this morning.

Zoe Kravitz, oh how I adore you. The actress is having a stellar awards circuit, with her Oscar De La Renta dress at the SAG Awards being one of the best gowns so far. Her choice last night was no different. Dressed in a sleek gold dress by Saint Laurent and accessorised with a red lip and earrings, she stole the show. And Twitter also agrees, vehemently.

Reneé Zellweger seems to have her fashion formula fine-tuned this season. She likes form-fitting and structured dresses in sheath fabric. Last night, her custom Prada gown was wonderfully soft and beautifully elegant and shows if it isn't broke, don't fix it.

Emilia Clarke

I know I harped on about how I wanted to see more colour, but Emilia's black Schiaparelli Haute Couture was the best of the dark hue brigade. The crystal embellishment adds an extra element of interest to the gown and the shape is superbly flattering.

Jodie Turner-Smith

It may not be for everyone, but this yellow Gucci number screams red-carpet glam. Jodie is in the midst of pregnancy glow and her dress magnificently adds to the effect. Her maternity style has truly been a joy to watch and this particular dress is how I imagine myself dressing through the trimesters.

I am a fiend for a Giambattista Valli gown and this number is no different. The Charlie’s Angels star brought some well-needed dramatic flair to the red carpet with her billowing cape-style dress. The train itself deserves its own essay but for now, we will just watch and admire.
