Full-coverage outfits for cold weather

Full-coverage outfits for cold weather
Be unapologetically bold in one of this season’s winning top-to-toe outfits, says Ellen Bird.

Primary Focus

An effusion of Crayola brights brought AW18 runways loudly to life. From tomato red to royal blue and energising yellow, designers and the fashion front row have gone unapologetically bold from head to toe. Indulge in this trend by pairing your choice of primary colour with thick coloured tights for a confident glow.

Oversized sweater, €39.95, Zara
Off-the-shoulder patent double-breasted coat, Simone Rocha, €2,800 at matches fashion.com
Silk satin shirt, €890 at gucci.com
Pleated cotton-blend satin wide-leg pants, Attico, €690 at net-a-porter.com

Make it denim

Anchor your everyday wardrobe with directional pieces in traditional blue denim. Whether it’s denim on denim, rinse- washed culottes, distressed patchwork or chic denim dresses, good old-fashioned blue denim is firmly back in fashion. We’re lusting after head-to-toe silhouettes, and doubling layers circa the 1990s, but with a modern twist; try patchwork as seen at Christian Dior, pair your overalls with a super-pretty blouse as per Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini or layer up like Sacai.

Frayed patchwork denim sweater, Victoria Victoria Beckham, €360 at net-a-porter.com
Denim sash shirtdress, Loro Piana, €1,900 at mytheresa.com
Good boy ripped jeans, Good American, €170 at Brown Thomas

Mixy not matchy

Clashing fabrics have never looked better. Both designers and high street divas have decided that this season, anything goes; florals with animal print, checks with sequins, and brown polka dots with coloured stripes. AW18 is all about balancing elaborate textures, embellished fabrics and kooky prints. We’re coming out strong this season, mixing everything with anything, head to toe.

Geometric print hooded parka, Parden’s, €788 at farfetch.com
