Broadcaster and fashion muse Angela Scanlon reveals her style commandments

Broadcaster and fashion muse Angela Scanlon reveals her style commandments

She may have swapped fashion for broadcasting but Angela Scanlon still knows a thing or two about how to achieve great style. Here she shares her style rules

Angela Scanlon is the energetic, effusive former stylist who has convincingly transformed herself into a quick-witted, sharp-tongued broadcaster (you can’t but have been impressed by her verbal sparring with icy star of The Apprentice Katie Hopkins on 2017’s RTE2 documentary series Close Encounters; available on RTÉ Player).

So, is the mother-of-one living the dream? “Well, the dream was actually to build a fashion empire with a wildly successful label and multiple stores,” explains the Co Meath native – with no hint of irony – who for the past few years has called Haggerston in London home (“It’s the new Hackney,” quips Scanlon in her usual upbeat tone).

It may not be Made in Chelsea, but Scanlon says she adores the New York-style loft apartment, which she shares with her entrepreneur husband Roy Horgan, whom she married in Co Wicklow wearing a Sorcha O’Raghallaigh dress.

Style rules

She’s effortlessly evolved from flighty fashion bird to credible TV presenter and documentary maker, and she’s done so without sacrificing any of her unique charm and warmth. Scanlon says television sort of landed in her lap, and at just the right time.

“I realised a few years ago that as much as I loved fashion, it wasn’t the career path I wanted to pursue. Since I began getting small slots a few years ago, television has felt like the right place for me to be. I love it,” she enthuses.

Although TV is Scanlon’s chosen career path now, this eclectic, fashion magpie still knows a thing or two about how to dress to impress. Here, she reveals her essential style commandments.
