This is what the perfect boiler suit looks like

This is what the perfect boiler suit looks like

Boiler suits are having a very big moment. Once a garment sported by mechanics and quirky art students, they now have the celebrity seal of approval, appearing in our favourite high street shops and social feeds on a regular basis. There’s a reason why they are selling out so fast: they’re minimal and effortless, but they’re a great one-and-done outfit. There’s no faffing about the night before or stressing first thing in the morning before work; just pop on a boiler suit and accessorise with a pair of earrings and the right shoes, and you’re ready to take on the day ahead.

This utilitarian trend is the perfect alternative for modern women who chase clothes that are comfortable enough to carry them through the hustle and bustle of the day. But this is a trend that disrupts the sacred masculine-feminine divide. Are boiler suits just like jumpsuits? Yes, with the exception that boiler suits tend to have a more industrial hit off them. Jumpsuits offer a softer, more playful silhouette. They shouldn’t be confused with rompers, though, which are shorter versions of both boiler suits and jumpsuits (not to make matters more confusing).

Just like when Cinderella found her glass slipper, you’ll know when you find the perfect B-suit. The right boiler suit should fit comfortably on your body – not too tight and not too loose – hug your frame nicely, but give you enough room to manoeuvre throughout the day.

What I love most about boiler suits is that they come in a variety of mid-and longer lengths, perfect for wearing year-round. Bonus points for those with turn-ups. Or wide legs. Or both. Here are nine styles to get you excited about finding your perfect one.
