Acne Studios and Mulberry collaborate for a 17-piece collection

In an unexpected collaboration, Acne Studios and Mulberry have come together to create a very special 17-piece collection


Few of us would ever put Acne Studios and Mulberry in the same sentence, nevermind a collaboration. However, now, it is a real thing.

The Swedish design house has joined forces with the heritage British brand to create a 17-piece collection of handbags and leather accessories. Its conception comes from a longtime friendship between Mulberry’s CEO Thierry Andretta and Acne Studio’s Creative Director Jonny Johansson.

Design elements of both houses have merged together to create bags which represent the elegance of Mulberry and the edgy nature of Acne Studios. Staple features such as the twisted knot of Acne Studio and Mulberry’s classic Bayswater shape are present throughout in colour-ways of salmon-pink and black and brown. Meanwhile, Mulberry’s Scotchgrain bag is reimagined by Acne with buckles and metal hardware.

It makes sense

Theirry Andretta, CEO of Mulberry said of the collaboration: “The Acne Studios and Mulberry collaboration is a perfect manifestation of the spirit of both our brands. It showcases Acne Studios’ wonderful Swedish design ethos and celebrates both the British heritage and modernity of Mulberry.”

Though unexpected, it makes sense for both brands. Last year, Mulberry saw a 6% fall in sales. The brand is popular among an older generation, so the Acne element will introduce a younger audience to the brand.

Mulberry is also widely stocked, whereas Acne is sold to a limited number of retailers. This ensures that for Acne, their reach can increase too, meaning the collaboration works at both ends. The brand is also a newcomer in the accessories spectrum, while Mulberry is a stalwart. Acne will be looking to increase their design expertise and knowledge.

The collection is available to buy on both websites and stores, as well as online via Farfetch and Selfridges. Prices range from €102 for a keyring to €1,550 for a Musubi Bayswater bag.
