5 Knits That Will Make You Wish It Was Winter Now

The best thing about?this time of year is buying knits. Throwing on a textured knit is?the sartorial equivalent of cooking one of those long and slow one-pot wonders that makes you feel both cosy and content.

This season, knitwear has been given a more directional feel, with asymmetric hems and?cut-out detailing, as well as oversized or shrunken shapes (silhouette is a key trend for AW16). Here are five of my favourite pieces from the new season collections.

Sweater dresses are a big look this year. I’ll pair this with a coloured oversized scarf, a pair of cropped pants and trainers for a cool but comfy look. It would also look wonderful worn over a midi skirt (layering dresses over skirts gives you extra fashion kudos) and a pair of ankle boots.

I love to layer in winter, so a cropped sweater is an important part of my sartorial arsenal. I always go oversized with cropped tops as they sit more comfortably over shirts and polos. Also, they look chic and sophisticated rather than cheap.

A turtleneck is a must-have piece this season. This fine wool-jersey polo?will work beautifully under dresses, tunics and T-shirts. I love the terracotta shade. Perfect for pale Irish skin tones like mine.

The appliqu? detailing on this sweater?is so clever. They look like flowers, but are trimmed with zips, which creates a wonderful contrast between soft and tough. This is definitely on my wish list for winter.

A colour-block knit is a great way of brightening up your winter wardrobe. I love the mix of plum and mustard here. I’d pair this with a check midi skirt for a smart casual look.
