Meghan Markle style: Four royally inspired dresses (all of which you can afford!)

Meghan Markle style: Four royally inspired dresses (all of which you can afford!)

Who doesn’t want to emulate Meghan Markle’s chic, effortless style? The colours she wears, silhouettes she chooses and accessories she sports suggest a confidence in her own inherent style as well as an understanding of the role required of her. Here are four of her best dresses and where to shop them on the high street.

When Meghan and Harry met young leaders of The Commonwealth Youth Forum, the former actress chose a stunning yellow fitted shift dress. This sunny shade mirrored the positivity and optimism of the occasion perfectly and suited her skin tone beautifully. She let the colour of the dress make the statement, and kept everything else minimal.

Get the look with this Zara fitted dress, which creates almost the same silhouette, but with cold-shoulder detailing.

Yesterday during her Irish visit, Meghan chose this chic LBD, with pinafore straps and a belted waist, by British designer Emilia Wickstead. She’s the epitome of understated style in this beautiful dress. Meghan never looks like she’s tried too hard, no matter what the occasion.

This Asos Design dress provides the same sophisticated look, but instead of the belt detail, it has a double panel of brass buttons.

Arriving in Dublin yesterday in a stunning dark green Givenchy number, Meghan played homage to our national colour without going over the top by wearing Kelly green or choosing Celtic embroidery. The light tan suede shoes and the tan leather handbag look fresher than black would have, especially at this time of year.

This Zara dress, which has been reduced to just €7.99, offers a similar shade and silhouette as Meghan’s Givenchy piece. It’s shorter, which is good if you have legs like Meghan’s or this model’s, but I’d probably layer this dress over a midi skirt in the same shade of green.

I adore this navy dress, and the headpiece Meghan chose to pair it with. Headpieces can so often look they’re wearing the wearer, but not here. Meghan looks as comfortable in this outfit as she does disembarking from the plane in the above Givenchy dress. I love the boatneck cut of this dress (Meghan also chose this neckline for her wedding dress) and the three-quarter-length sleeves, which add a nice point of difference to the piece.

With a similar neckline and sleeve length, this Coast Lurex dress offers the same silhouette as Meghan’s, but in a more fluid, “everyday” fabric.
