15 stand-out trench coats sitting in our shopping baskets

15 stand-out trench coats sitting in our shopping baskets

Traditional trench coats have been given a shake-up. Not so much known as a fashion statement, the adorned classic – in all its beige tones – can sometimes cause you to fade into the background. But our favourite high-street retailers have moved away from classically b.o.r.i.n.g (finally), and introduced some fun features to this prolific piece, from super-chic puffy sleeves and deconstructed hemlines to check fabrics.

While I’m a lover of classic elegance, I’m an even bigger lover of fashion-forward designs. Burberry’s signature trench got a refreshing makeover for AW18 with vinyl fabric and neon pink pinstripes, while Rejina Pyo’s glossy leather trenches were cinched at the waist (they’ve since become a street-style favourite). Neutral colours aren’t so bland when reimagined in directional cuts and tactile fabrics. The real power of the modern trench is wearing it and not blending into the crowd.

If it’s something classic you’re after, though, I’ve sussed out several must-haves. And for those of you screaming for a pop of colour, I’ve found some alternative versions worth the investment. The hardest part is simply choosing only one.
