snl 40th anniversary special two people kissing
Saturday Night Live, the launchpad for many of the comedic actors we know and love today, turned 40 this weekend. To celebrate, they aired a special extended show. It featured many of the classic sketches SNL are now famous for, performed by a mix of both the original performers and some more recent familiar faces.
Jimmy Fallon, who is fast-becoming a legend of comedy sketches on his own show, opened the night with Justin Timberlake as they danced and sang their way through the cold open, highlighting some of the classic quotes and sketches from previous years including The Ambiguously Gay Duo, Schweddy Balls and our personal favourite, Christopher Walken’s legendary cowbell sketch.
It wouldn’t be an episode of Saturday Night Live without Celebrity Jeopardy. With special guest appearances from Justin Bieber, Matthew McConaughey, Tony Bennett, Se?n Connery and many more, it’s simply brilliant.
The pinnacle of the night though was undoubtedly the side-achingly hilarious Californians which featured Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig, Taylor Swift and Kerry Washington amongst many others. The highlight of the sketch was an unexpected game of tonsil-hockey between Bradley Cooper and Betty White. Yes, that Betty White!
