The Sound of Music

As if it were planned by some higher power, sun-baked Dublin is set to be chock-a-block packed with amazing gigs this weekend. From the Phoenix Park to Iveagh Gardens, we bring you a selection to help you weave your way through the phenomenal weekend ahead. Dancing taxi men, record-breaking heat and music - we predict general mayhem and mischief set to some great tunes.

Ickis Mirolo, Simon Bird, Turning Down Sex | The Joinery | Friday July 12th?One of our favourite little venues situated in the heart of Stoneybatter, The Joinery turns up the heat this with this electro-noise night. The inventive and original sounds of Ickis Mirolo and Simon Bird after a little rendition by the unusual post-punk band Turning Down Sex.

Frank Ocean & Haim |Phoenix Park | Saturday July 13th

They're opening for The Killers which is strange. However! Frank Ocean and Haim have been the obsession of many over the past year or more, and are undoubtedly two of the hottest new acts of recent years. In spite of their diverse genres - rap/hip hop and pop-ey-rock ala Kate Bush - this mix is to die for. Two Door Cinema Club also billed and not bad at all.

Bell X1, Fionn Regan, We Cut Corners | Iveagh Gardens | Saturday July 13th

Fionn Regan is definitely a feather in our cap in terms of Irish singer-songwriters, a mesmerizing voice for crafted and intelligent ballads. Bell X1 we also always enjoy as they give us an immediate feeling of being outdoors filled with festival feel-good. Newcomers We Cut Corners do justice to the line up and we are likely to become quite familiar with these two and their haunting songs.

Damien Dempsey, Gavin James, Wallis Bird | Iveagh Gardens | Sunday July 14th?Always a hero, no matter how much we get made fun of, Wallis Bird is the ephemeral singer-songwriter who grabs our attention and our hearts with her gravelly folksy sound. Gavin James is well-worth the listen also.

Mumford & Sons, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes | Phoenix Park | Sunday July 14th

Oh, Mumford & Sons, how did you make those weird clothes you wear look so good and how did you make your infinite long-not-warbling sound so good? They're great live. Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeroes were spotted two Electric Picnics-ago doing a secret gig in the woods. The ultimate summery feel-good vibe. Wonderful.

Roisin Agnew @Roxeenna is going to be flat broke after the weekend...
