Star Wars’ Daisy Ridley Defends Herself Against Nasty Instagram Trolls

Daisy Ridley attends the premiere of Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" at the Dolby Theatre on December 14th, 2015 in Hollywood, California.

Daisy Ridley is a name that is fast residing on the tip of every influential movie maker’s tongue. Having kicked ass in the critically acclaimed Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the young British actress is now tipped to take on the eponymous role of Lara Croft in the forthcoming Tomb Raider reboot. Angelina Jolie starred in the same role for the original movie adaptations.

At just 23 years of age, the rising star who blew us away with her performance as Rey in Star Wars has earned herself the position of major frontrunner for all manner of action movies, and hopefully we’ll get to see her flex her thespian muscles in some meaty dramas too. Deadline report that she’s top of the list to take over from Angelina and with Warner Brothers and MGM at the helm, we’d be expecting an altogether slicker affair (no offence, Jolie, but those movies while fun were too cheesy to handle).

In other Ridley related news, the actress has recently been confronted with nasty internet trolls who slammed her for setting unrealistic expectations for young women for being too thin. She’s 23, active and has a healthy, athletic appearance. Needless to say, Daisy hit back at such outlandish comments; she won’t stand for any kind of body shaming.

A particularly nasty Instagram user created a meme of Ridley’s character Rey in JJ Abrams’s film, complete with additional speech bubble stating: ?I can’t believe the unrealistic expectations I’m setting for young girls. Who cast me anyway? Don’t they know real women haves curves??

First she replied to the offender directly, saying: ??Real women? are all shapes and sizes, all ethnicities, all levels of brave, have families, don’t have families. I am a ‘real woman? like every other woman in this world.?

?Then upon realising that sometimes the worst thing you can do is give these trolls oxygen, Ridley turned her attention to her fans.?

?I will not apologise for how I look, what I say and how I live my life ?cause what’s happening inside is much more important anyway and I am striving to be the best version of myself, even if I stumble along the way. It seems apt I get tagged in this a day after I received misogynistic comments on my [International Women’s Day] post.?
