Michael Fassbender in Macbeth: New Trailer Arrives

Michael Fassbender, noted finer and acclaimed actor, will return to our cinema screens after an absence that saw hearts beat slower. His sexiness is a pendulum. The Irish-German actor stars as tht titular Macbeth opposite Marion Cotillard, so expect a red carpet run on Dior, her luxe label of choice, when the Shakespeare adaptation arrives in cinemas next month. (Trivia: Black Swan actress and fellow Dior ambassador Natalie Portman was originally cast as the devious wife who encourages her husband to claim power using all bloodthirsty means possible.) The movie also stars What Richard Did‘s Jack Reynor as Malcolm.

A new trailer was released in recent days and there’s misty atmosphere, raspy monologues, some ace braid work, chanting, crowns and veils, a man descending into madness spurred on by a bloodthirsty ambition. There are already strong whispers of Oscar attaching to Fassbender’s performance. The Shame actor has been less prolific of late, with X-Men productions taking up a lot of time alongside more indie fare, such as?Frank and Slow West. However, it looks like we’re heading into a year of the Fass with?leading?roles in movies like Steve Jobs and Assassin’s Creed?heading for almost certain box office glory in the coming months. While the 38-year-old was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in 2013’s 12 Years A Slave, a lot of industry insiders feel it is high-time the Irish actor was properly honoured for the strong body of work he has been steadily building this past decade. Perhaps Macbeth will be the one that gets his brogue making the “I’d like to thank the Academy” speech?

At Cannes this film won a tonne of critical plaudits, and a 10 minute long standing ovation, so get ready for some willing recall of leaving certificate texts. Hail Macbeth, this looks very good. Here’s the lush looking trailer:
