Lily-Rose Depp Clarifies Comments About Her Sexuality

Last year, Lily-Rose Depp (daughter of actor Johnny), was widely praised for her decision to take part in a campaign titled the Self Evident Truth Project, which aims to share images of Americans who fall on ?a broader spectrum of human sexuality.?By featuring in one of photographer iO Tillett Wright’s images (which she shared on Instagram), many took it to mean that this was the 16-year-old’s way of hinting that she falls somewhere on this spectrum. However, in a new interview, the young actress and model has said, many misinterpreted the post.

I’m so proud of my baby girl @lilyrose_depp. She decided she wanted to be in @selfevidentproject because she falls somewhere on the vast spectrum, and I couldn’t be happier to welcome her to the family. She’s a tiny gem of a good human. #prouduncle #weareyou

She spoke to Nylon about the ‘misconstrued? reception of the campaign and said she featured in it to support not having to label sexuality, as opposed to using it as a platform personally.

Wright said he was ?proud? of Depp for featuring in the photo as she apparently decided to be in the campaign?because she falls somewhere on the vast spectrum.?

?That was really misconstrued, the whole thing. A lot of people took it as me coming out, but that’s not what I was trying to do. I was literally doing it just to say that you don’t have to label you sexuality; so many kids these days are not labelling their sexuality and I think that’s so cool? If you like something one day then you do, and if you like something else the other day, it’s whatever. You don’t have to label yourself because it’s not set in stone. It’s so fluid,” she said. “There’s so much pressure on kids to label themselves and say, “This is what I am, this is what I like.”

?I guess it came off the wrong way because then everyone labelled me as gay. That’s not what I was trying to say. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, of course!?

?I’m saying it doesn’t matter. It’s not anybody’s business because I am going to date whoever I’m going to date. I was just saying, kids don’t need to label their sexualities. It’s not that big of a deal,” she added.

This is the first time Depp has spoken out about her sexuality, and while it’s nobodies business, the young star is still playing her part in promoting a positive message, which is very admirable.
