Kate Middleton Is A Nifty Scuba Diver

Kate Middleton Is A Nifty Scuba Diver

Who knew? When it comes to the Duchess of Cambridge, people tend to focus on two things: her fashion sense and her children (yes, we know how guilty we are of this!), but it’s also worth noting that she of course, has other interests outside of her royal duties and being a wife and mother, and can keep up with the best of ?em when it comes to Scuba Diving, for example.

According to People, Kate as taken an advanced diving course that means she can keep up with her husband when he goes shark-diving in Mustique. Impressive. A Kensington Palace official confirmed that Kate has built on her enjoyment for scuba diving by passing the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) advanced tests. This will bode well with William, as the couple are said to be famously competitive when it comes to sport, so they can compete against each other under water. (We’re so rooting for Kate to win any competitions they may have).

According to PADI, the qualification involves two required dives: deep and underwater navigation, along with three other dives of the participant’s choosing.

Among the skills acquired are: “how to plan dives to deal with the physiological effects and challenges of deeper scuba diving,” according the organisation, as well as refining “compass navigation skills” and improved navigation “using kick-cycles, visual landmarks and time.”

This writer can’t scuba dive (and can barely swim), so this sounds like an impressive skill to have. Funny how it’s been widely reported about William’s fondness for all things sporty, yet Kate rarely makes headlines for her activities outside her royal duties. It’s something we enjoy reading about.

The family is keen to pass their love of diving down to the family, as William recently told SCUBA magazine that he is eager for Prince George, to embrace the sport.

“At the moment bath time is quite painful,” he said, “but hopefully donning a snorkel and mask might calm him down!”
