Beyonce Goes Vintage

Just the other day here at IMAGE towers, we were discussing the sad fact that nobody seems to sing like Ella Fitzgerald or Billie Holiday anymore, how much we love that vintage sound and how the arrival of the ornamentation-obsessed Mariah Careys and Christina Aguileras lead to a collective murdering of would-be lovely vocals. Don't you find there's a tendency towards overkill?

And if it's not that, it's the Lily Allen type trend of barely singing at all, not that that's a bad thing, each to their own 'n all that.

How refreshing it was then to stumble upon Cristina Gatti and The Postmodern Jukebox, via who specialise in vintage, 30s and 40s style arrangements, to transport us back to the classiest of times. But here's the best part: they're reworking today's hits with a vintage, big band twist, such as Beyonce's Drunk In Love and Sam Smith's Stay With Me.

Perfect dinner party music.

Thanks to Elle for the heads up, these guys are going right to the top of our download wishlist.
