Have you ever wanted to visit IMMA, but something always seems to get in the way? How about trying out a new hobby, but just don’t seem to have the time? Tonight, cities, towns, and communities will spring to life after dark at the annual Culture Night, with – literally – thousands of free, family-friendly events taking place nationwide. The whole premise is that cultural centers, museums, galleries, theatres, workshops, studios – and everything else culturally drive – open their doors to the public for free for one night ‘so you can experience something totally new, free of change.
The capital city – and indeed even the smallest suburbs – will be buzzing; from poetry slams, free gigs, music lessons, and songs and dance, to arts and crafts, comedy, and more. With that, it’s time to start planning your Friday night adventure, so here are our top picks of things to do and see around Dublin city if you’re an art, film, music, or fashion fiend.

What:?Come get your fingers inky with the crew at Damn Fine Print studio in Stoneybatter, Dublin 7. Learn how to pull your own limited edition print and take part in live screenprinting demos.

What:?Above the Fold are collaborating with the Tara Building to present a night of talks designed to highlight the creative and collaborative nature of Dublin’s newest co-working space. Talks will feature artists, designers, writers and event managers whose practice encapsulates culture in Dublin. Visitors will also have a chance to pull their own print with the help of Tara residents Apollo Print, ?as well as live music and light refreshments.

What: The Irish Guild of Weavers, Spinners, and Dyers will be on hand at The Constant Knitter this Friday to show you how to spin fleece into yarn with a drop spindle or a spinning wheel, and how to weave yarn on a loom. What:?One of the most iconic recording studios in the world, Windmill Lane Recording Studios will give visitors the chance to see where the musical magic happens. Tours and live performances on the night.

What:?A selected group of Irish traditional and roots performers will play a live set of traditional Irish music. Followed by a talk on the unique history of Mary’s, having been the location of the former Wicklow Hotel where, in 1921, Michael Collins and his comrades were not only regulars to the hotel but they also ordered a hit on the head porter who was suspected of being a spy. Pints, music, and craic – what more could you want!

What:?The Irish Rock ?N? Roll Museum will offer a round of mini 15-min taster guided tours and give you a sneak peek into a part of their exhibition in Apollo Studios. From iconic memorabilia from legends such as U2 and Thin Lizzy to rehearsal rooms where guests can form their own band and rock out, it’s the ultimate Irish rock experience. Guided tours every 20 mins from 6pm-9pm, max 10 per group, first come first served.
